Trivial pursuits

There’s a Disney Trivia Challenge in the Promenade Lounge at 11:45, and with our big breakfast, we can put off lunch until after that. On our 2005 cruise, I entered and won a similar trivia contest and won a medal, a Disney Cruise Line keychain, and my favorite prize, a small DCL logo pin like the ones crew members wear. Brandon has been drooling over it ever since, and would like a chance to win something similar.

I still need to get cleaned up, though, so I head to take a shower. The shower in the master bathroom is almost the luxury equivalent of the tub. It is lined in marble, has two shower heads, and even a marble alcove where you can sit while you shower.

The two shower heads are wonderful. The seat, though, is... not so much – that marble is cold! Still, it’s a very enjoyable shower, and I make it last quite a while.

I dress in time to leave for the trivia challenge with Brandon and Benjamin. The boys have talked Becky into going, too, although she doesn’t think she’ll be much use during the game. She knows Disney stuff, sure, but not to the obsessive degree that the boys and I do! At least she’ll be with us when we’re ready for lunch.

We go down to Deck 4 and make our way to the Promenade Lounge. There are a few people already there. Life onboard is so casual sometimes that it’s hard to tell if the people here are intending to be part of the trivia challenge, or if they are just, um, lounging.

We find a set of seats and a table to write on, and soon a crew member is by with an answer sheet. The boys are excited, and given our extensive Disney knowledge, we figure we’ve got a pretty decent chance of winning this!

Suzanne from England is our MC (hmm, a "CM MC"?) for the game. She has fun with the contest, freely admitting that she may have trouble pronouncing some of the words in the questions, and also challenging us to get a good look at her now and try to spot her dressed as a pirate in this evening’s Pirates In the Caribbean deck party.

The game begins, with the questions projected on a screen at one end of the lounge. And the first question is… “What U.S. state is known as the ‘Beehive State’?”

Whaaat?

As we quickly realize, this is not specifically a Disney trivia challenge, and a quick glance at our “Navigator” schedule confirms that it is just listed as “Trivia Challenge.”

Oh, well, that’s a bit disappointing. I’m okay with general trivia, but it’s just less interesting to us. On the positive side, though, Becky joins in and helps on the non-Disney stuff.

There do turn out to be a few Disney questions thrown in, and at the end of the 25-question game, we have gotten 23 correct! Not bad at all – but not good enough to win. Another family nearby only missed one, so they get the prizes: key chains, a refrigerator picture-frame magnet, and a beach ball. Oh well, we tried.

It’s after noon now, and we are ready for lunch, so off we go downstairs to meet Bob and Linda at Triton’s.
